The SPDR S&P Metals and Mining ETF (XME) is seeing unusually high volume in afternoon trading Tuesday, with over 5.3 million shares traded versus three month average volume of about 3.2 million. Shares of XME were down about 5.8% on the day.
Components of that ETF with the highest volume on Tuesday were Freeport McMoRan (FCX), trading off about 10.4% with over 13.7 million shares changing hands so far this session, and Alcoa (AA), down about 5.7% on volume of over 7.4 million shares. Steel Dynamics (STLD) is the component faring the best Tuesday, lower by about 0.9% on the day, while Timkensteel (TMST) is lagging other components of the SPDR S&P Metals and Mining ETF, trading lower by about 14.8%.
